There once was a singer from Clyde Who swallowed six songs in one stride He tripped on a tune And howled at the moon While rhymes started slipping and sliding inside Tick-tock, tip-top, tongue in a twist Flip-flop, hip-hop, rhyme in a list Quick with the wick and the words that we spit Limerick lightning, I never will quit There once was a drummer named Lee Who drummed on a bumblebee’s knee The bee said β€œHey man!” But he sped up his jam Now they buzz in a band in B-flat key She sells silly syllables, swiftly she sings Sifting through symphonies, slippery strings Bitter batter better bounce back fast Faster than a flittering, glittering blast There once was a poet so quick He rhymed every line in a flick With a twist of his tongue Ten songs he had sung Before you could say β€œcinnamon stick” Red leather, yellow leather, rhythm in flight Bright biting verses igniting the night Lively and lightly the lyrics collide Stacking up syllables side by side There once was a lad full of cheer Who rhymed every word he could hear From β€œpickle” to β€œplane” To β€œsunshine” and β€œrain” Now his limericks echo each year Quick trick, slick click, words intertwine Fast past, outlast, beat hits the line Tongue tied, don’t hide, let it all rip Limerick fever on a lyrical trip There once was a beat moving fast Too speedy for most to outlast But we doubled it up And filled every cup With rhymes that just blast and blast
